Just a reminder that this is a short school week for the kids.  There is no school Friday as it is a Professional Development Day for teachers.

Even though it is a short week we have a lot going on in our classroom and around the school.  Here is a look at this weeks activities:

Classroom Assignments

Math - There is a short math quiz tomorrow on the multiplication strategies that we have been working on in class.  Some of the strategies are: drawing arrays, skip counting, doubling, and repeated doubling for the number 8, the 9  trick using your fingers, breaking numbers into smaller facts and adding, and knowing that the answer when multiplying by 9 always adds up to 9.

Although these strategies are great, the best and easiest method of multiplying these facts is to memorize them. I have sent home a practice booklet on the basic multiplication facts up to the number 10.  This is just for extra practice and does not have to be completed however thos kids that do complete the booklet and bring it back to class will earn a reward for their hard work.

Writing - The students are working on their Descriptive Writing Project in class.  This will be due on Feb. 10th.

Reading - The students have been working on Readers Theater presentations and will be ready to present by Feb. 7th.  All parents are welcome to attend our show.  A note will be sent home shortly with all the details for this exciting event so save the date!

Science - The students have been working on studying Habitats and Communities and are now starting their final project on Endangered Species.  Pictures of the assignment are below.  Most students have chosen to work with a partner although some students have decided to work on their own.

Independent Home Reading Project - don't forget to remind your child to be working on their Book in a Box project that is due in March!

Health - We have completed the FRIENDS program and will be starting our next unit of study on Nutrition!

Spelling - Since this is a short week there was no knew spelling assigned for this week.

School and Classroom Activities

A Zumba instructor has been invited to Dr. Perry school to lead all classes in a Zumba exercise class.  Our class will have their turn on Thursday from 9:45 - 10:30.  An extra change of clothes would be advised as the kids work up quite a sweat in this class!

No school on Friday for students!
