Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and were able to catch up with friends and family.  We are down to the last ten weeks of school.  Can you believe how fast this year is flying by?  We are jumping right back in to the swing of things here at school.  Here is a look at what we are working on this week:


Classroom Assignments

Math - We are starting a new Unit this week on Fractions and Decimals.  Lesson 1: Fractions of a Whole is due on Wednesday. 

Spelling - Lesson 16 will be handed out tomorrow.  It will be due on Tuesday, May 2nd.  Spelling test 16 will be on Tuesday, May 2nd.

Reading - Literature Role sheet number 3 is due on Thursday.

Writing - Realistic Fiction Narratives are due on Wed, May 3rd.

Science - Metamorphic rock questions are due on Wed, April 26th.

Health - Food Pyramid due next Wed, May 3rd.

Upcoming School and Classroom Activities

Note sent home today on our upcoming field trip to the Dirt Hills on May 3rd.  Please sign and return the permission form by Friday.

Dr. Perry School SCC Annual General Meeting – 6:30pm – Monday, May 1st.

Friday, April 28th Hat Day – Grade 8 Charity Fundraiser.

Wed, April 12th, 2017

I am sorry this is so late.  It has been a bit of a hectic week with Mr. McKeowan leaving and basketball winding up.  It has been a week of goodbye's for myself and for the kids.  When we come back from the break Mrs. Stangle will officially be taking over as the principal of Dr. Perry School. Easter break begins this Friday and the kids return to school on April 24th.  

Here is a look at what we have been working on this week:

Classroom Assignment

Reading - Literature Circle Role Sheet Number 2 due Monday, April 24th.

Writing - Realistic Fiction Narratives due May 3rd.

No Spelling this week.

Science - Sedimentary Rock questions due Monday, April 24th.

Math tests sent home to be signed.  We will be starting Fractions and decimals after the break.

Home Reading Project due May 1st.

Upcoming Classroom and School Activities

Beach Day tomorrow!  Wear what you would wear to the beach (within reason).

No school Friday April 14th - April 23rd.

Welcome to April!  We have two weeks of school left until Easter Break.  Here is a look at what is happening this week in our classroom:

Classroom Assignments

Math - Extra Practice 10 is due on Wednesday. 

Spelling - Lesson 15 will be handed out tomorrow.  It is due Tuesday, April 11th.  Spelling test 15 will also be on Tuesday, April 11th.

Writing - We have just started our graphic organizers on Realistic Fiction.  There story should include the 5 elements of a story: Characters, Setting, Conflict, Plot, and Theme.  They are also learning how to write with diologue.  There is no due date set yet for this writing piece.

Reading - We will be starting our Literature Circles tomorrow with Ms. Deckers class.  Ask your child what book they are reading!  All the books are based on a survival theme.

Health - Lesson 2 questions on the food groups are due on Friday.

Science - Minerals Quiz (fill in the blanks)  and mineral quilt piece are due tomorrow.

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

How did the last week of March get here already?  I can't believe that at the end of this week there is only 3 months of school left!  Hopefully spring is here to stay and the snow is gone for good!  We had a fantastic time at the Science Centre today.  Our workshop had the kids creating an ecosystem in a bottle.  Most of the kids left their ecosystems here at school for us to watch the growth of the plants that they planted inside their bottles. Pictures of our trip will be posted soon!

Classroom Assignments:

Spelling Lesson 14 is due tomorrow.

Spelling test 14 is tomorrow.

There will be no new spelling this week due to conferences on Friday.

Math - We are starting to work on Dividing two and three digit numbers by 1 number and remainders.  Please continue to have the kids practice their basic multiplication facts from 1-10.  Extra Practice 8 on dividing larger numbers using arrays is due on Thursday. 

Writing - Mythology projects are due Thursday. Next week we will be learning about Realistic Fiction.

Reading - We are coming to the end of our Mythology Unit.  Next week we will begin Literature Circles.  The theme will be on Survival.

Science - We are looking at the 7 properties of a mineral and how they are used to test a rock to see if it is a rock or a mineral.

Hello!  I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!  We have a busy week ahead of us!  Here is a look at what we are working on:

Classroom Assignments

Spelling Lesson 14 due March 28th.

Spelling Test 14 - March 28th.

Math Lesson 7 due tomorrow.  There will be a math quiz on multiplying larger numbers on Wed.  A study booklet was sent home.  We will be starting dividing larger numbers this week!

Reading - The questions for The 12 Labors of Heracles are due Thursday, March 23rd.

Writing - Mythology God/Godess research project due Wed, March 29th.

Science - We started our Rocks and Minerals Unit today!  Ask the kids what they learned from Bill Nye the Science Guy!  Mineral Questions will be due Thursday.

Health - We are learning about the 5 Food Groups and the Food Pyramid!  Questions on the 5 food groups will be due Thursday, March 30th.

Hello and welcome to another short week of school!  There is no school for students on Thursday and Friday due to the Teachers Convention and Professional Development day.  First I just want to say a big thank you to all the parents and guests that were able to attend our Endangered Species sharing event.  The kids were so excited to show you their hard work.  Please check out some of the pictures from the event at the end of this post.  Here is a look at what is coming up this week:

Classroom Assignments:

Spelling Lesson 13 is due tomorrow. 

Spelling Test 13 is tomorrow.

There will be no new spelling handed out this week.

Math - Lesson 6 is due for Wednesday of this week.  Next week the students will be having a short quiz on multiplying with larger numbers.  This quiz will be held on Wed.  I will send home a study booklet at the end of this week.

Science - We will be starting a new unit of study: Rocks and Minerals.  This will begin next week.

Reading - The students read the myth Pandora's Box today.  Questions on the story elements of this myth are due Wed.

Writing - Mythology reports are due March 29th.

Upcoming Classroom and School Events:

@PERRY Leprechaun Trap Display and Sharing @ 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Parents are welcome to come in and check out all the traps that the students made.

Mythology Projects due March 29th.

Science Presentations will be tomorrow from 2:30 - 3:20.  Parents are welcome to come and check out the amazing work done for our Endangered Species project.

Home Book Project- Create a 3D character -  was sent home at the end of last week. It will be due on May 1st.

Math - Lesson 3 - Using Mental Math to Multiply is due Thursday.

Leprechaun Trap STEM challenge - The whole school is participating in a challenge to see who can create the best Leprechaun Trap. We are working with Mr. Weber's grade 8 class to create the traps.  Students are to bring any material that they may need to build their devices.  It should be materials that they can find around the house such as: tape, string, glue, popsicle sticks, boxes, straws, etc... In their groups they were to decide who was to bring what items.  The traps will be displayed next Wed in the gymnasium from 11:45 - 12:45.  Parents are welcome to come and check out what the kids come up with.

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a great February break!  Can you believe we only have 4 months left of school!  Spring is right around the corner.  We have a busy week and month ahead of us.  Here is a look at what is happening this week:

Classroom Assignments

Spelling Lesson 12 will be handed out tomorrow.  It will be due on Tuesday, March 7th.

Spelling test 12 will be on Tuesday, March 7th.

Math - Math quiz was sent home today.  Please sign and return.  We will be started Unit 8: Multiplying and dividing larger numbers.  Lesson 1 will be due on Wed.  Lesson 2 will be due on Monday.

Reading - We are continuing our study of mythology.  The students will be starting their second myth tomorrow: Athena and Arachne.  The students will be looking at the elements that make up a myth: plot, character, conflict, theme, setting.

Writing - The students are working on a mythology report on a god or goddess of their choice.

Science - We are finishing up our research projects on Endangered Species.  A note will be sent home this week inviting parents in for a viewing fair where the kids reports and dioramas will be set up for you to check out.

Health - Nutrition lesson 1 will be due next wed.

Phys-Ed - We are finishing up basketball and will be starting a soccer unit.

Monday, Feb. 13th, 2017

Welcome to the last week of school before the February break! Today was the 100th day of school which means we are over half way done the year!  I can't believe how fast time is flying by!  This week is a busy week full of activities and new projects!  Here is a look at our week:

Classroom Assignments

Math -  The students Division booklet is due on Wednesday and they will have a short quiz on the division strategies that we have been working on.  We have also started a math art project where they are coloring cartoon characters by solving division or multiplication questions.

Reading - This week we will be continuing our study of Mythology by looking closer at some of the myths that we performed and also reading some new ones.  The students will be looking at the features of Mythology such as: allusions, and the elements of a story such as setting, plot, conflict, character, and theme. 

Writing - In writing the students will be researching a God from Mythology and writing a circle report on that God.  More details will be posted soon.

Health - This week we will be starting our Nutrition unit.  Our first lesson will be on why we need food to survive.

Spelling - There will be no spelling this week due to the holiday.

Book in a box home reading project is due March 1st.

Science - The students Endangered Species Projects are due on Feb. 28th.  We will be inviting parents in to see the final project.  More information about this coming soon.

Upcoming School and Classroom Activities

Valentine's Day tomorrow.  Students were given a class list if they planned to handout Valentine's.  Please make sure that if they are handing them out that they have one for ever y member of the class.

Frozen Yogurt will be sold on Thursday, Feb. 16th for $3.00. 

Thursday, Feb. 16 is also Red Cross Pink Day to stand united against bullying.  It is also World Read Aloud Day.
